Description / Comments
The 10th Annual Bull Canyon Run will be held on May 3, 2008 and hope to have over 800 participants come out for the run and walk. The goal is to raise over $15,000 for Special Olympics.

Where/When?:  May 3, 2008
All events start at the Edwards Community Center, located at the corner of Panther and Dominguez, in the City of Santa Maria.  Go east on Main Street from US101, past Suey and then left on Panther Drive (formerly Freemont).  Ample parking at the high school and on Panther.  Do not enter from the north via Donovan Road.
All events start promptly at 8:00 AM.  We found that running the 10K at 9:00 AM can get a little hot in the canyon.  Strollers and nice, happy dogs are permitted on the walk and run.

Cost:
Runners - $15 for youth under 18 and $20 for adults.
Walkers - $15 for adult or youth
Add $5 if you register on race day!

Awards:
All participants receive an event t-shirt and a medal.  Medals are also given out to the 1st (gold), 2nd (silver), 3rd (bronze) finishers in each age category for both runs.  All walkers and runners who finish 4th and higher receive a participation medal.

The overall top three finishers in the 5K run and 10K run (male & female) will receive a plaque, in addition to the medal both runs only, not the walks.  Plaques for 1st place in the Masters (40+) (45+) Grand Masters (50+) (55+) (60+) and (65+), both male and female.

Age Divisions:
5K/10K Runs:  5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+
5K/10K Walks: 5-9, 10-19. 20-29. 30-39. 40-49. 50-59. 60-69. 70+

The Southern California Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics began in 1987. Officers of Santa Barbara County have looked in several ways to raise money for athletes of SB County.  It started with Tip-a-Cop dinners and selling t-shirts.  In 1999, the first Bull Canyon Run was held.  It was just a 10K and it decided to use Bull Canyon Road, because it was easy to close the road for the run and it provided a nice run through the country side.

The Bull Canyon Run is a Law Enforcement Torch Run sponsored event.  LETR is a world-wide organization that raises money and awareness for Special Olympics.
