May Day Will be “Paint Our Town Purple Day” in the Five Cities
Purple is the official color of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. And on May 1, 2008, purple will be the color of homes, businesses, schools and just about everywhere in the Five Cities
To promote this year’s Relay For Life in south San Luis Obispo County, American Cancer Society volunteers and staff will help celebrate May Day for Relay by painting our town purple. You’ll see Relay pride all over the Five Cities with purple flags, ribbons, and balloons.
Businesses and individuals who would like to support the Arroyo Grande Relay for Life can get into the spirit too. Local merchants and businesses can hang purple Relay for Life banners in their store windows and tie purple ribbons outside.. Painting the town purple will remind people that the Arroyo Grande Relay for Life will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd at St. Patrick’s School in Arroyo Grande. People interested in learning more about this year’s Relay are invited to a Community-wide Rally the evening of May 1st at the Oak Park Christian Church located at 386 North Oak Park Boulevard in Grover Beach at 6:30 pm.
For event supporters, the outpouring of purple is a reminder of Relay For Life hope. Relay for Life is a 24 hour relay to raise funds for the American Cancer Society for cancer research and support for people living with cancer. When you see purple on May 1, 2008 in the Five Cities, remember, it’s a call to action.
